1984 is one of the few books that I read "for fun" while in college. I just love dystopias, and 1984 is a classic dystopia. Winston Smith cannot trust anyone; some of his neighbor kids turned in their parents for 'thoughtcrime'. He is especially wary of Julia, a beautiful young woman with whom he works. However, when Julia expresses interest in Winston, the two are very soon in a special arrangement that allows them to be together while avoiding being caught by the thought police. It's not just a love story in a dystopia, though; Winston would never have been caught if he did not trust others, as he had at the beginning of the book.
