Review: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐/5 stars Painted Scars is a mafia romance with seemingly sweet & soft romance with a hint of dark romance in it. It also represents physical disabilities in the main characters. One thing I like about this is the characters aren't made perfect. They have their imperfections & insecurities. Roman Petrov, the pakhan of the Russian mafia, was not physically perfect but ruled the Bratva with an iron fist, and to solidify his rule he had to seek out a matrimony of convenience until he became physically fit for ruling the mafia. Nina Grey, daughter of a real-estate mogul, found herself in the crossfire when her father decided to borrow money from the Russians. To save her parents, she was forced to marry into the crime family, and that too to the pakhan himself. The book's a bit fast-paced, but they do have great character development. I loved how Roman's heart opened up for Nina, and how they both became obsessed with each other. Seeing them fall in love with each other reminded me of arom-comm kind of like how two frenemies become lovers. The book has some humor too, and many open-door steamy scenes. Oh, and it has a 3rd act breakup too which I find completely unnecessary but overall it was a good read for relaxing.
