My earliest memories are liberally sprinkled with the out-ofdoors: camping, hiking, fishing and backpacking. I do not remember a time before hiking - it has just always been a part of my life. The first trips went unrecorded, but as Dad took to the hills with his fishing pole, he fortunately began jotting trip notes on a three-inch spiral pad in 1964, a habit I did not take up until twenty years later. Those few lines and his photographs augment my own memories of hiking with Dad
