The main interest of the original two volume work was to provide illustrations in colour reproducing illuminations in manuscripts of Froissart's Chronicles to provide additional iconography for a two volume translation into English by Thomas Johnes of Froissart's Chronicles which was already profusely illustrated with black and white woodcuts.
