The Amaranth Enchantment is a loose retelling of Cinderella. Lucinda, our protagonist, is a girl who works in her aunt and uncle's dingy goldsmith shop after the death of her rich mother and father, who happen to be good friends with the King. Lucinda gets into trouble when a magical stone comes into her possession and is then stolen.
What was wrong with this book:
*Details start to get pretty fuzzy each time the plot circles around Beryl, the original owner of this stone. Her timeline is loop-holed, her home is incredibly vague, her return to her home does damage to how believable the book is as a whole.
*The end of the book is both slow and slap-dash.
*I was unhappy when Lucinda said, "Mother of God" in anger.
What was right with this book:
*I really enjoyed the character of Peter.
*Lucinda was a humble person and unaware of her beauty and her worth.
*The beginning of the book was actually very well done. Gregor and Lucinda's first meeting was a highlight.
