I hadn't read this book since high school, but reading it now I can't imagine why I wouldn't have continued with the series. The book itself is a great, short dystopian story that clearly belongs in an English/reading syllabus. But the ending is so abrupt that it felt like the book just kind of fell off a cliff (almost literally).I'll say this -- I would really, really like to know more.
This book was okay. I would have been happier with this book if the ending had been more concrete one way or the other. I've said this before, but I feel that endings such as that of The Giver are a cop out.
The rest of the book was beautiful, and clearly worthy of a Newbery.
