Honestly, I liked it. Not because it was toxic but because of how many layers it added to the character's depth. The story follows after Achilles Ferrante, the crown prince of Ferrante Mafia Clan barters Tierney Callaghan, an Irish mob princess in exchange for the life of her brother's old friend. Tierney Callaghan hates Achilles Ferrante with a burning passion for he took her freedom from him, trying to make her life as miserable as he could within his capabilities. But here's the thing, she also thinks she deserves it because of their shared history. Achilles Ferrante is obsessed with Tierney Callaghan, not being able to let go of her he resorts to keeping her captive, constantly making sure she never finds someone else. His logic? If I can't have her, no one can. Any man she approaches, dies at the hands of the very mobster. Achilles & Tierney try to make each other's life a living hell much like you'd expect in an enemies to lovers but here's the twist, they were lovers before they became enemies. Fighting against his feelings for Tierney, Achilles tries to get rid of her when his time comes for proving that he still is worthy of his father's throne, however things take an opposite turn when their past collides and secrets unravel. This book was no less than an emotional rollercoaster. From feeling pissed by Achilles' misogyny to frustration to sizzling chemistry to devastation for what they both went through and ultimately feeling happy for their happy ending, LJ Shen knew what she was doing with our hearts. If you are a fan of LJ Shen, and dark romance with character growth and multi layered characters, you can't miss this book!!!
