This was a great follow up to The Way of Kings. TWoK really took some time to start moving, but Words of Radiance didn't take nearly as much persistence for the payoff.
Brandon Sanderson answered the question of how to top The Way of Kings.
He somehow made me love the characters I hated (Dalinar & Adolin) while making me love the characters I liked (Kaladin & Shallan) even more.
I’ve never had quite this emotional response to a book. My adrenaline was pumping during the entire last 500 pages. I was fully invested in every storyline, wondering about things I thought couldn’t have been over, and trying to figure out where on earth it could all go from here.
The book-long buildup of characters made the culmination so satisfying. Seeing our main characters finally cross paths & form relationships with one another made it seem that two of my friends became friends with each other. Seeing the roller coaster of character arcs go up & down for 1200 pages to finally blow me away at the end was worth the month & a half I spent reading it. (It was the holidays! Life got busy!)
I will leave my review a 5/5 until Goodreads allows me to give a higher score.
PS Rysn’s interlude was great & I’m pretty stoked for Dawnshard!
