This was my favorite standalone book for many years! It was the first adult novel that got me interested in reading more than just what I was assigned for school. The dark, brooding nature of the antagonist contrasts really beautifully against the hopeful innocence of the protagonist and his family. It's one book I'd love to own a signed copy of one day because of its significance in my life!

This was amazing. The way Koontz had me utterly haaaating Junior so much was a sign of just how good Koontz was at writing him. I was ranting to people about how horrible a man he was. Something I have noticed about Koontz so far (this is only like, my 3rd book by him) is that mothers are important. Mothers are a driving force in their children's lives and I love that. So few books showcase how much mothers can matter that I enjoy seeing such strong women in Koontz' books. He also always has a cop or authority figure who's there to do good and protect. So while Koontz writes some horrifying characters and stories, he also writes good people and the good they put into the world
