I think this is such an important book to read. Its short but I think I highlighted half the book. A couple highlights I thought particularly worth reading: "Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on." "If people are as incapable, as immoral, and as ignorant as the politicians indicate, then why is the right of these same people to vote defended with such passionate insistence?"

I honestly struggled with how to rate this. I love Little Women. Its a classic and I have fond memories from reading it as a child. This book... kinda twisted those characters and at times the way they were twisted frustrated me. Having previously read Little Women made this book better because I understood more references but there were little inconsistencies that didn't feel true to the characters for me. Now this entirely a me thing and if you love Little Women you may love this book. I did really enjoy the overall plot and story. It is an entirely the characters the had me rating this low and not sure of my feelings on it. Overall a great thriller though that was quick moving and enjoyable

Empathy itself is a good thing. Without it we could not exist as a society. But just like anything when taken too far it can be a bad thing. For example if my roommate gets fired I can have empathy and not require them to pay their rent on time (covering it myself) but it becomes bad when that person does not get a job and continues to have me pay the rent alone because boohoo they got fired (not a great example but an example) That is a very different example to what Stuckey writes about but and example of why I agree that empathy in many cases has gotten toxic and overused

While as a Christian myself I don't agree with chopping the Bible up and only keeping the parts we believe/agree with, this was an interesting read to understand what one of the men founded our nation believed.

Women will always get their revenge in the end... even if its not quite how they originally planned. This one was a slow start for me. While I find the 3 women dating the same man an interesting concept the setup felt slow and I got impatient for the action to start. Otherwise I very much enjoyed Nora, Cham and Ruby. Their interactions, their planning, their distrust, the bond they built.
