I absolutely loved this. I cheered for Emmett, I groaned when he made stupid choices, I hoped for him and I was sad for him in the end. While not all of us are overweight gay men I feel like all of us can see something of ourselves in Emmett's desire to fit in, to be accepted, to be successful, to be loved... and in his love for food. Dumas really made you connect to him. I usually avoid books that mention Covid or current times especially in the horror genre but Dumas did it so smoothly I didn't feel the dread I usually feel when it comes up. I did the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration and how the narrator dealt with the social media posts that I'm assuming in the book are pictures. It didn't feel like I missed seeing something because I was listening.
