TLDR: has a few good points but not enough to outweigh the underlying phobic language, so it is not worth wasting the time to read.
So, I've started typing this review a couple of times as I really don't know where to start. Did this book have good information for cis gay men as far as subjects like grindr, aids, stds, religion and some recommendations on helpful ways to come out? Yes.
But that's about all the good I found in this book, and even with that, I wouldn't recommend it to read. This book literally has:
"There's a long-running joke that, after 'coming out,' a lesbian, gay guy, bisexual, or trans person should receive a membership card and instruction manual. THIS IS THAT INSTRUCTION MANUAL. You're welcome."
As part of the blurb and yet it is so far from a good instruction manual. A good instruction manual for lesbians, gays, bis and trans, and ally's would not have underlying biphobic, acephobic, straightphobic, non-monogamousphobic language... and that's without touching that fact that it completely ignores the existence of anyone outside the lgbt letters - which, while slightly expected, considering this was written in I believe 2014(?) was still very disappointing.
For example, the book literally starts off by explaining what Asexuality is... and then proceeds throughout the book to loudly proclaims, "We ALL want to have LOTS of sex."
Then it gets slightly slut shamy and ignores ENM (the ignorance of ENM i could put down due to it being written in 2014) when it says safe sex only happens in a monogamous relationship between 2 people who use condoms... though the whole safe sex is only between 2 people in a monogamous relationship is also odd because later on the book talks about how many gays are promiscuous... it specifically says promiscuous because "slutty" is such a bad word in their opinion.
The straightphobia is brief but worth a mention because we can't expect people to read this and to be LGBT+ allies if we are out here shaming them for their lifestyles and calling their relationships tiny and sad.
