The entire book I hated all the characters. It felt like the entire thing was just them repeating how much they disliked each other and it just wore at me. Even the ending was how much they disliked each other.

Book Review | We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough. 3.25 ⭐️'s. I love a haunted house story, but this one was a bit darker than I like. I definitely need to be better about reading content warnings before I start a book. I wrestled with doing a review on this one, but I like sharing what I'm reading, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea. And even if this one wasn't a total win in my opinion, maybe someone else will enjoy it. And maybe it will lead to suggestions of similar books that don't have as many of the issues I had with this one. The good: The haunted house elements of this book are so good. Feeling cold all the time, fires going out, books flying off the bookshelf, windows & doors opening & closing & of course some footsteps here & there as well. And the why behind it all I though was really well done. Not to mention the ending. I don't know that I've read anything like this one before. I also liked the raven element throughout the book. It was a nice nod to Poe. The not so good: Infidelity is a central theme throughout (including one open door scene) & is unfortunately essential to the plot. There is also a couple in an open marriage. Light swearing in the first half of the book, then it picks up a lot in the second half. That being said, this held my attention & I read it in two days. The first night I had to put the book down because it was creeping me out. I'm always impressed when an author can scare me like that. I definitely could've done without the infidelity & swearing, but I don't think there is a cozy horror genre, so I guess I'm out of luck. It would just be great if a couple could move into a spooky old house & BOTH see the crazy things going on. So instead of thinking their spouse is crazy, they could team up & figure out why the house is haunted. And they could stay faithful to each other too. Seriously, there's a place for cozy horror in my life. 😂
